95 3.0L Caravan - Transmission shifting...

After 100k miles, I had my transmission replaced at AAMCO. The problem was that it would no longer engage or continuously slip (fluid was OK).

So far so good.

After 3-4 months, I started noticing that between 45-55 MPH and with moderate pedal pressure, the transmission would constantly switch gears (downshift-upshift-downshift...). I went back to AAMCO who held it for a day for tests. Upon my return, I was told that everything was normal and that they did not see the problem. As a matter of fact, when I drove away, the problem had mysteriously disappeared!

Two months later, the same problem is reoccuring.

I suspect that they did something while it was back at the shop but for whatever reason, they deny it. Why? Because the problem just plain disappeared after the visit (It was very easily reproducible prior to the visit).

I am planning to return to AAMCO but before, I would like some comments or suggestions as to what might be at fault. This way, I can be more specific... and I will also perform the test drive with their tech.

Re: 95 3.0L Caravan - Transmission shifting...

I suspect the shop might have inspected the inside of the transmission and changed some of the transmission oil in the process. Clean(er) oil is the key. I had a simular problem with my 95 which went also went mysteriously away. Once a year I would have the transmission fluid changed and power flushed. No problems since then.
