Help me!

That's my Ford Mustang so far.

I've got a serious problem with the outlines. I don't know how to say it in English, the german word is just "krakelig" - you may see what I mean.
I can't define the outlines and it's hard to define it. the drawing is on A4 (about letter format) and I really did not drink too much coffee before, and I was even not frightened of anything. How can I get rid of those wavy lines?
Thanks for comments!

Re: Help me!

Ruler and french curves. Dont be afraid to make your own templates and guides out of thin carboard or posterboard

Re: Help me!

Just relax...you're drawing...enjoy it. You have a great skill that you can learn and grow with. Have fun.

From a technique stand point try drawing more with your arm and less with your hand. Before you put pencil to paper lightly run your pencil over the line you plan to draw. By doing this a few times you build a memory of your line in your arm and mind. Try it, it's amazing!! Just like an alternator belt in a car your mind and arm will remember the line it has practiced and then you will render it based on that.

Athletes do it all the time. Before they shoot the freethrow, or jump the high jump they mentally rehearse.

Try it.

Enjoy.

Re: Help me!

as lemorris says, use your WHOLE ARM when you draw. make broad sweeping strokes with your arm and hand. your drawing is messy and scratchy-looking. it says to me that you are only feathering the lines with your wrist.

use the whole body in motion.

and work on your front wheel.

Thanks guys!

I tried to hover with my arm over the sheet, not touching it, and it worked!
I also found out the faster i draw the line, the straighter it is - but unfortunately it's harder to control.
I guess I was used to rest my hand on the paer because in the past, I only did smaller sketches where you don't have to move your hand at all.

@ gtmike400: can you explain what french curves are? Anything with Bezier-curves?
@ bonzelite: the wheel does in fact look a bit strange - I didn't notice that. But the whole part under the bumper gets black anyway - it's not needed to figure out the tread of the tire.

And yeah - drawing is a real pleasure. Great to chill out.

Did that some days ago:

I'm quite satisfied with it so far, only the light reflections on the windows are a bit weird...

please comment

By the way...

you're all from the U.S., right? Is it true that you don't have any istitution that controls the vehicles on your streets?

I saw a show on TV where Jay Lenno showed some of his cars - the german TUV would never allow him to drive them here. They are so stupid, they even don't allow carbon spoilers (because they are too sharp...). Every change you make has to be checked by the TUV ($$$),then you get an entry in your car document. Most of the "Pimp my ride" cars would not be allowed on our roads.
Please tell me!

Re: Help me!

knight, i am glad your drawing has improved by using our comments.

i like your VW concepts. the top one is the most complete idea, and is the strongest.

there are regulations in the USA for modifications on cars. most of the rules are about pollution control devices. and the color of the car's turn signal lights. some police will stop you for a loud exhaust. most will not, though.

also, it is illegal to have the car lowered too far, but few police enforce this. wings, body kits, are all legal as long as the car has the lights working and is not a polluter. however, there are many people who drive illegally, and are never discovered. all of jay leno's cars that he drives are probably street legal eventhough some look ridiculous. as long as the car is too old to be checked for smog, and has all of the lights working, has no bad damage to the glass or tires, it is legal. i suppose laws here in the USA are more relaxed than in germany.

but in germany you guys have the autobahn highways without a speed limit. that would never happen in the united states.

lol, that's great you know our Autobahn! Even the Swiss do, so when they want to take a ride, they drive on our Autobahn. Some years ago, I saw a race: a corvette against a Porsche - both with swiss signs.
Your speed limit is 60 miles, I guess, about 130 km/h, that's really a bit slow.
Well, our government don't needs to make an speed limit. the gas prices are so high that most people just don't have money to race...

in rural areas, the speed limit is 75mph. people will drive over this, though. like 90-100mph. this is still slow compared to autobahn speeds! the fastest i have ever driven is 135mph. and that was scary.

i know this is gotten off-topic.

do you have any versions of the mustang that are redrawn with better lines?

No, not yet.
There's a lot to do for schhol, you know, Cristmas is near and every teacher wants to give us a special gift (a class test)...

Btw, only a few segments of our autobahn have no speed limit. It's not like driving 100 km at 180 km/h.

Re: Help me!

Well, how old are you now?

I'm only 13...I've been drawing since 2...and only started doing 3/4 car drawings 2 years ago. It takes time, but just practice, you'll get it...
