antifreeze leaking from engine

i have a 1992 gmc jimmy with a v-6 vortec engine...and i noticed that antifreeze is leaking from my car. i checked my radiator and my hoses and they seem fine...my water pump doesn't look like it's leaking either...is there any other peice of hardware that could be leaking antifreeze?

Re: antifreeze leaking from engine

The underside of the hoses and the water pump is some places to start.

You have to feel under the hoses to find the leak in most cases.

Lay out an old towel underneath it so you can find out exactly where it is leaking and check immediately above the stain.

what is the peice of hardware to the immediate right of the water pump? (if you're looking straight up from the underside of the car) that is where most of my antifreeze seems to be leaking from. any idea what that is and the approximate cost?

Shouldn't be too muc.

You need to get your hands in there and feel around where it is wet and find out exactly where the leak is. It is probably the water pump.

Re: antifreeze leaking from engine

How do you know for sure they are leaking.

I have yet to hear about both of them going at the same time.

Ya, both would not usually go at the same time. Has this been a problem for a long time. That might cause them to both be bad (one going a while ago and the other more recent).

One thing you can do, if you can't see it from under the vehicle, is take a miror and maybe even a flashlight and try to look up under there really well.

If labor is going to be too much, you might want to pick up a Chilton or Hayene's manual and try to do it yourself

Jeeze, I have a sneaking feeling this guy is being ripped off.

Sounds just like a leaking water pump to me.

Talking All fixed at ZERO cost!

----------------------------
Ok I had the same EXACT problem and being a poor bastard I spent some time looking for the leak,What I found was a loose bolt that holds the waterpump on to the engine block. It was the bottom bolt on the passenger side of the engine water pump. It was very loose and I suspect it is common to the 4.3 engine. After tightening it up (no cost) the leak stopped immediately. So the ?*mechanics*? are probably aware of this easy money problem too. and replacing the water pump would surely also fix it too. I just fixed it about 5 minutes ago after reading some posts on this forum.

I used to run a TV shop and we had many "easy money" jobs that looked like BIG trouble to the customer ha ha.

By the way when you get tired of car talk come over to my general purpose forum and play a few games or whatever,I need some good members see at ===> http://n4zdu.net
