Broken Gas Guage

I got a beutiful 1989 Buick Park Avenue. Its my first care and theres almost no rust on the body, and get this, the car is as old as me! But theres one slight problem. The gas guage seems to be broken. It is stuck on FULL. Being a teenager always in need of gas, this poses a problem! I had the gas guage working at one point. But now after a fill its stuck again. Any suggestions?

Thank you's in advance!

what did you do?

my guess is the wire to the level sender in the tank is bad somewhere, and the gauge defaults to full

Well when i mean ME i don't mean ME. What i really mean is i had a mechanic look at it when i had the tranny fluid changed. Some how he fixed it.

I agree with these guys, Its probably a bad ground to the sender, if it persists, drop the tank and see what is going on...

How DID i ever make out in it. Wiring seems to be intact, do you have a less general suggestion?

Ok, if the wiring is intact the sensor in the tank probably disinigrated. It happens over time, and happens more often if a car sits and the fuel gets stale. its not a expensive item to replace, just gets messy.

Re: Broken Gas Guage

For the time being, does anyone know how many miles to the tank a buick PA gets, roughly?
