Question emission control light

I have a 2000 E-150 conversion van.The emission control light comes on when you accelerate fast and sputters some. The light flashes several time but goes off when you let the speed drop to around 40 mph and there is a strange smell light a new car makes. The van has 71,000 miles on it.Does anyone have any imformation on what the problem could or might be.

Re: emission control light

Your emissions warrenty is to 8 years or 80,000 miles, have a dealer check it out. Most likely the reaoris will be free.

Re: Re: emission control light

Took the van to the ford dealership and found out that the fuel filter was the problem and everything else was in good shape.I would not have taken the van in since the light had not came back on in a few days but we have a special needs child in a wheel chair and if the van breaks down we are in a pickle. Thanks again for the help.
