Magical Mystery wiring 95 Sunfire
Ok... Long story, but the short version involves coming back from Iraq and my brother getting me a 95 sunfire that as soon as I started driving it, it would loose power and die when I stopped at a light, or moved at low RPM's like in a parking lot. Furthermore, the starter had to be replaced almost immediately, and power wasn't getting back to the battery, even though the alternator worked just fine (spun-tested and all). Lo and behold, during one of its hard-to-start episodes, it coughed and died, then started right up on the next try and ran for the next five months and 5000 miles just fine. However, I left it at my brother's shop to get the coil-pack distributor replaced, and got it back in great working order, only to return from a short out of town trip this weekend and suddenly its acting just like it did when I first got it. My first guess was a wiring harness short, but also I'm seeing some corrosion gunk on the cable that runs off of the battery terminal to the main bus fuses, so I'm going to treat that with some #1 gunk fighter, Dr Pepper. Also, I noticed that when it's acting in this state, the ABS, Brake, and air bag lights turn on. I'm not 100% certain that the battery's not getting return power like before, but if you don't hear from me in a few days you'll know. Any thoughts on the specifics to the problem?
