soldering/brazing
In reply to the thread about soldering joints to make a gokart, you could always use fittings to join the tubes, and braze them. It's pretty much teh same thing as soldering, but it holds a much stronger joint. It's not ultimately as strong as a properly welded joint, and it weighs a little bit more, but you can do it in your garage with a torch. Butane won't nearly be hot enough, but you can get a cheap turbo torch for about $30 with a bottle of MPS gas, which would be enough heat for soldering the joints, or you can get a small oxy-acetylene welding/brazing kit for about $70 and that would work for the brazing.
