Exclamation code 43, and I smell gas????!!!!!

I just got a 91 Integra LS, and the car runs really bad at start up, almost wants to die every 3 seconds, but then seems to "catch itself" and there’s a heavy smell of fuel all the time. I’m getting a code 43, so I know there’s a fuel problem. Is there anything I should change or check?? and if I’m supposed to check something how do I do it??? I hope this isn’t a huge problem, cause I really want to keep this car. It’s got about 171,500 miles on it

BTW the car seems only to run bad a idle.. This car is quick going down my street, so anything over 2,ooo rpm seems fine.

Thanks guys!!!

and to the question. have you smelled around the car to see where the odor seems to be coming from. tailpipe, engine area around intake manifold? now code 43 is fuel supply. somewhere from the fuel pump to the engine something is wrong. look for wet area's or just a strong smell.

yea the smell is coming from the engine, right when i start the car, if i have the hood up, its pretty bad, almost got me sick last time i checked... but as soon as it stops raining, im gonnna look around again, possibly for a leak, or a strong smell from a certin area...
ill take a few pics if a can, cause where the fuel ine is, before the fuel rail, is pretty rusted, ill check around there...

thanks man
