Squeal upon engine start

I have a squeal that occurs right after the engine starts and turns over. It happens for just a second or two. Should I replace the starter motor? Or can I get away with just replacing the selonoid?

That has nothing to do with the starter. It's either a belt or a pulley, most likely your water pump pulley. It's common for the water pump seal to go bad and leak coolant onto the pulley which makes it squeal, as it gets worse the squealing will continue longer.

my starter is doing the same thing, and so are 2 of my friends starters that have 3S's, Im letting mine go until somethign worse happens. I cant think of anything bad that its causing, its just spinning the starter after the engine starts.

oh, that kind of squeal...like a high pitched "whirring"? Well if the starter is staying engaged too long that would mean the magnet in there isn't working as good as it should, so I think that's a whole starter replacement $80 i think.

lol starter is like $140. Thats the cheapest I found. Mine used to do the same thing. I had some issues that IU thought the starter were causing so I replaced it. Turned out to be something stupid but I kept the starter since mine was original with 130k on it.

Well I got mine for $80 at autozone 2 months ago, lifetime warranty. Maybe you got ripped.

hmmm dunno. I dont get ripped off though cause I know my shit. Plus it was my friend who sold me the starter, he used to work at Advance. Mine may have been a lifetime warantee too. Maybe it was the only brand they had and I bought it cause I (though I) needed it. I can never remember anything anymore.

mines been noisy for the last 2 years, ive learnt to put up with it.mines only the pinion that is noisy.

Is it the same for when you push on the gas at around 3000 rpm's? Because i get a squeal when i push on the gas (all gears)
