best engine for a 68 cougar

My grandfather and I jsut bought a 68 cougar with a 302. we're planning on rebulding it and uting it in my dads capri. I wanted to spend around 3 grand on a new engine with at least 300hp. does anyone know of any sites that have engines for that price?

look in summit catalog or on there website
http://www.summitraceing.com
or try this

there are alot of sites for crate motors.
but stick with a 351w easy bolt on to your car.
what kind of tranny do you have a 4 speed or auto?
you could build that 302 to be quite the beast also.

do a search on 302 crate motors or 351 crate motors.
good luck keep us posted on what you do.

Re: best engine for a 68 cougar

Well i got a auto but i ws going to get a T5 transmission. Well with the 302 i ws putting it into my dads 73 ford capri and getting a bigger engine for the cougar. I was thinking of getting a 302 crate or a 351 crate i found a dew good site with them.

Re: best engine for a 68 cougar

the 302 and 351 are great engines and you can get a lot power out of either one. If you are going to use an automatic tranny, i would recomend a c-4 with a nice shift kit and high performance torque conterter
