Question Where is the Thermostat????

I have a '94 Taurus wagon. I need to replace the thermostat but can't find where it goes. I removed the hose running from the top of the rad to the engine but there's nothing there! I had a Nissan years ago and the thermostat was in a wierd spot at the back of the motor - does Ford play hide and seek the same way?

Hate to see you do that....Get a cheap wood chisel and use the blade to pry it off,,..that is the perfect gasket removal tool too...previous owner may have used somethin like 3m storm strip sealer for the gasket...that stuff is hard to deal with when removing a part stuck with it.
