RPM and Milage gauges go haywire

I recently bought a 2003 Sunfire and have had this problem, the RPM gauge goes way to the right, sticking, and then causing the milage guage to also mess up. Anyone know what the problem is here and what the fix can be so I can tell my *cough* mechanic who doesnt seem to believe me because by the time I get it to shop it has stopped doing it. LoL

sounds like you may have a bad cluster, the mileage and RPMs are different. mileage is based off the VSS and RPM is off the ignition. Bad ground or loose connection somewhere either before or on the circuit board.

had the same problem with my 1996 sunfire the computer was the problem dont know if that is the case with yours
