Driver side mirror replacement

Can anyone help with this? It seems as though I need to access this from the inside of the driver side door, but I don't know how to remove it. Please help!

I am in the same situation. I just ordered it and now I have to find the correct way of installing it. From what I can see it does install from the inside, but you have to take the molding off. What did you find out ?

Thank you in advance, Bob Szeluga

I had to replace the mirrors on both my '91 & '94 Explorers. I think the only difference from 97 on was the door switch plate. You have to remove the inner door panel to access the mirror. It's pretty easy to do. First thing is to lower the window fully to get access to the mirror area. Next disconnect the negative battery cable to shut down the airbag sensors. VERY IMPORTANT STEP. Next remove the screws holding the trim paplate at the door handle and pry it off. Lift off the switch assembly and unscrew the wires from the back. Next use a large flat blade screwdriver and pry the door panel off starting at the bottom. Be careful doing this so you don't damage the plastic retainers on the trim. You need to reuse them. Next carefully lift up on the panel to remove it from the top lip of the door. disconnect the door light from the housing. Peel back the plastic sheet from the top corner of the door behind the mirror. Reach in and find the wire from the back of the mirror to it's connection and unplug. Unscrew the back of the mirror from the door and remove it. Insert the new mirror and screw it in, plug in connector and reattach plastic, I had to use some tape to hold it in place. reconnect the light bulb and put panel back in place. Make sure all the fasteners snap in. then reconnect switch to wiring and reassemble the door panel. Hope this is of help.
