Had a little run-in with a VR4...

Today i ran my first run against a Twin Turbo VR4...I'm on my way to an Army surplus store well up pulls next to me a VR4 twin turbo. I was way surprised to see this kind of car in this part of town to say the least heh. So we're on a 3 lane road i'm in the right lane, he's in the far left lane. There's a vehicle in between us but they ain't payin' attention. Light goes green i chirp the tires in 1st and get ahead a little keeping the rpms up just in case he goes for it. And of course he does so i then stomp on it hard and proceed to leave him like he's standing still. By the time i was in 3rd gear i think i probably had 5 cars on him, no joke. I was a little disappointed at this because i hear so many good things about these vr4's. So at the next light i roll up on his right side and smile and nod my head like "hey man nice car" kinda look. So he's cool and rolls down his window and says "what do you have in there?" i told him "its a 331 stroker, heads, cam, intake". I also tell him that his VR4 is the first one i've ever seen on the street (its true i've never seen one before on the road). He's like "what? really?" i say "yes, that's a nice car". He then says he wants to race again when this light goes green. I failed to hear him cause i'm admiring his car when he said it. So i'm thinking "why is he revving?". Then i get the point (i'm a dumbass sometimes, sorry) right as a look forward the light goes green. I'm thinking "ok remain calm, ease into the throttle remember your on street tires they're gonna spin". Remember the part where i said i'm a dumbass sometimes? well i mashed the throttle and basicly eliminated 1st gear i went no where and my tires went up in smoke. lol, so 2nd gear i let the damn rear tires grab and i start reeling him in super fast. By this time he's already 3-4 cars up so i'm gaining ground extremely fast. We went through what i THOUGHT was a school zone (35mph) so hit pretty much slammed on my brakes for fear of cops. When i did this he was still 1 car ahead. *sigh* so i SUPPOSE you could say he beat me the 2nd time . But that was a some fun stuff, i like beating cars with boost, its fun to look at there faces when you tell them your "all motor" lol hehehehe. In the end either it was stock or he didn't know how to drive very well cause i am still disappointed in how slow it seemed. I'm not trying to start a flame war here ppl ok...just stating my experience against a VR4. Oh yeah he also had his girl with him, which is always cool to beat someone like that

Cliffnotes: 1-Beat a VR4
2-sorta lost but not really to the same VR4
3-Dissapointed by VR4's performance considering it was twin turbo

Well. Your car is like low mid 12's right? A vr-4 can hit high 12's with a VERY good driver, but... it's usually like a mid 13's car, So it's not all that surprusing that you toasted him, nice race nonetheless.

oh, and VR-4 turbos are tiny

Re: Had a little run-in with a VR4...

Nice races like everyone one else says. I've never seen a VR-4 in action, but judging by how fast my dad's car is (SL), I can imagine that the VR-4 could be quite the competitive machine. Nice job, too bad you couldn't have gone the distance on the second run. Late...

Yamahapower, What have you done to your Car?
Cause if you're stock chances are either the VR4 wasn't racing, or didn't know how to drive.

Mach 1's are mid 13 sec cars stock. Very capable of hanging, if not beating a VR4.

Anyhow nice race.

Long story short, i was cruising with my friend out to a deserted road just to mash a little and i saw him pulled over. Pulled up next to him and he ask me if i wanted to run i said count to 3. He didnt launch on me, but i didnt get much traction which is why we were even through first, then i walked him. He didnt miss any gears or anything and yes im sure it was a vr4. I wished i had a video camera. I have exaust.

Re: Had a little run-in with a VR4...

well how fast is your stang? if your running 12's like o'boy said above then you shouldn't be disapointed at all. its likely you were racing a 14.0 second car in a high 12's low 13's car. not suprising at all.

maybe your just use to hearing the battles i write about, but remember, i'm not stock.

not flaming at all, but i've raced for instance a corvette. well i'm not gonna say i'm dissapointed in the speed because my upgraded vr4 kept even with it. know what i mean?

regardless how you feel about them, nice kill

Re: Had a little run-in with a VR4...

Ya but who knows how good that thing was running. It had a REALY nice paint job, BIG exaust tips and a loud bov. I thought it was gonna be neck and neck. I question how good that thing was running, cuz i just left him behind as soon as 2nd came. And since he was pulled over on that road, im pretty sure that thing is raced out. Its a decade old car vs a brand new car.
