90 siverado poor heat and circulation

I have never been on one of these sites before coupled with the fact that i am 45yrs old makes for a computer dolt.any help would be great!!
Its getting cold here in saskatchewan,Canada.I just bought(3months ago)a 1990 chev siverado. The previous owner stated that the heater has not been great.I have installed a new water pump(leaking),2 new thermostats,a new restricter valve that is at the rear(passenger)side of the intake man.(it is a nipple that restricts water flow, then turns into metal pipe, then rubber hose and carries onto the heater core.should i remove this restricter and pipe like some others(including rad shops)are doing??the heater core inlet hose is hot while the exit hose is cool? When i rev the engine the heater becomes slightly warmer.the temp.guage iside the truck reads aprox.65Celcius(dont ask what that is in Farenheit)its about only a quarter on the guage.when i look inside the rad,i can see that the flow comming back from the heater core is only a trickle.when i rev the engine the flow is just slightly more than a trickle. Also the coolant level in the rad (cap off)seems to flucuate up and down about every 20 seconds or so and sometimes overflows.Could this be an air lock???Also the top heater hose seems hot only the couple inches near the thermostat housing and again at the rad.cool in the middle of the hose.does this heater system controlled by vacuum inside for the controlls? could vacuum be the reason the heat gets slightly warmer when the engine is reved?
It seems i have poor circulation and low coolant temp.any help with this would be greatly accepted.thanks yall

Re: 90 siverado poor heat and circulation

you might have a bad heater core. I have never changed one in a truck, but the one in my car was a pain in the ass. Other signs of a bad core is an antifreeze smell coming from the dash and a wet floorbed.

If there was an airlock in your cooling system I believe that the truck would just over heat. Wait for a couple more posts, but I am gonna go with heater core on this one.

you are a brain!!It was a plugged heater core.took it to the car wash, removed the hoses and blew out the core from both pipes.you should of seen the crap come out.aluminum core.perhaps the aluminum core attracts debri because the rest of the system was relatively clean.
I was looking at your pic of your truck.juicey.want to trade straight across for my 1990.I only paid a grand.Ha Ha!!but put 2 more in on parts and paint.where did u get the scoop.was it a hood or just a scoop installed?im looking for a scoop as i have not painted the top of the truck yet(2 tone)we do not have much in the way of stuff up here.can order in though.cost a fortune though.later man!!thanks

Re: 90 siverado poor heat and circulation

I got a deal on this hood. I bought it off ebay from a guy with no feedback. I think alot of people were scared to bid on it, being a large item. Its a reflexxion hood. www.reflexxion.com its functional. I had to have it painted. shipping is approx 120. But the guy I bought from does alot of shipping through a particular company and was able to ship for $60. Thanks for the compliments on the truck, I think I'll keep it a little while longer ;-)
