85 corolla 5dr std-tach ques.

well my friend just baught a 85 corrolla 5dr with a 5 speed and the only thing missing is a tach (what was toyota thinking, not puttting a tach in a standard!) well he is wanting to put a monster tech in but we are wondering where to connect it (is there a extra wire for a tech behind the guage cluster?) or do we need to put in a rpm senser and rin the wires?

my friend just recently bought a tach and i believe he had to connect one of the wires to the negative terminal of the battery, another wire to the distributor , and one to the ignition. THose are the general guidelines to connecting them. I don't know maybe others are differnet

thanks for that bit of info i will happily pass it on to my friend and hopfully we can get a tach put in in the next few weeks so we can finally get the car out of the driveway with out the fear of over reving the engine.
for now we are just going around some empty parking lots after his dad drives us down to them just to be perfectly street legel (neither of us have our licences yet.
