side molding

I have a white 04 TB with black side molding and would like to change it to the white molding I have seen on some trucks. It it possible to do this myself? Any ideas how much it might cost?

Thanks

Ron

Re: side molding

I just added side moulding to my EXT, as it was barren from the factory (Yikes!) There are three different styles available for the 04...the plain grey, grey with a chrome strip, and paintable. You need the paintable if you want it bodycolor...which means you will need to get it painted. I went with the good old plain grey, and I think for all four pieces it ran upwards of $225 for the set.

Oh, you will also need a VIN number from a truck with the moulding you want, as GM only sells parts now based on VIN numbers (so you can't play with "adding" options, I guess....). Sigh....

Re: side molding

How did you attach it? Did you have to take off the inside door panels?

Mine came with black and I would like either the grey or white?

Thanks

They come from the dealer with double sided tape already installed. What I did, was wiped down the side of the car with some prep-sol (wax/grease remover), pulled a piece of tape down the side of the car for a guide, then carefully lined up the new moulding and pressed it into place. Of course I made sure both sides were the same height, and followed the body line...

If you are replacing yours, you will have to remove the old ones...which I would use a hot air gun to soften the tape and work it with a plastic putty knife carefully. Once the moulding is off, you will probably have some cleanup work on the old tape residue....but that would be it.

Finally, GM doesn't sell white moulding, they sell paintable parts which you need to have painted yourself.

Good luck!
