MR2 Turbo vs Acura RSX

So its late in the AM after thanksgiving, and im on my way back to my college on the highway. I come to a stop at a light and I see a black RSX make a left into the direction that im going so I think, "Hmmm, maybe ill catch up to him when the light changes..."

So about 10 minutes later I see him on a long straight, no cars, and when I speed up to catch up to him, as if anticipating, he floors it about 3 cars infront of me and to my surprise, I couldnt catch up. We stayed even until we both hit approx 100 and he shut it down so that we could get side by side for a real race.

Well I pace him, and we both slow down, I drop from 5th to 4th, then to 3rd, and when I do, he just PUNCHES it, so I do too.

He stayed on to my side through 3rd, and when I shifted to 4th I jumped a car on him (bad driving on his behalf I assume.) I maintain my lead through 4th and I shut it down doing a lil over a hundred.

So then he flies past after I shut it down, he stayed ahead for a lil bit then started to tap his brakes to slow down. I figured he wanted another run, so when I pace him again, he absolutely refuses to go again. I figure "Oh well, at least I got some racing in tonight" and I leave him behind.

It was around this time that I realized that i've seen at least 9 people pulled over on this drive. Thanksgiving, so I guess cops are looking for drunks, maybe racing wasnt a good idea...

Then I notice a car speeding up to catch up to me, then it paces me, it was him again. I give him a thumbs up, being very impressed with the fact that his RSX kept up with me (didnt know if it was a base or not, but I DOUBT IT)

He nods as if to say thanks, and then he downshifts. "He wants to race again? I dont know if I should do this." I go against my better judgement when he starts honking:

1st honk: I downshifted to 4th
2nd honk: Shifted to 3rd and waited to be released by the 3rd honk
3rd honk: I go WOT and so does he.

This time its different though, he puts a car on me in 3rd, and another in 4th. No bad driving that time, he actually beat me... I flashed him my high beams twice, conceding, he takes his exit.

His car was definately not a stock RSX, I was quite impressed actually, guy seemed nice too, which is rare. Sure would like to see his mods list, hopefully he is on here. Either way, here are mine:

- MBC @ 15psi (also disabled fuel cut)
- Apexi Intake

Cliffs notes: Raced a RSX, beat him then he beat me, nice guy, and I wont underestimate our FWD Honda brothers as much anymore. But, according to my rules, now that i've lost a race, its time to get faster... So tomorrow im ordering my KO Racing exhaust and downpipe, that should free up some horsepower...

Re: MR2 Turbo vs Acura RSX

RSX's do have pretty good top ends. I wouldn't doubt he could keep up under the circumstances. Now if yall stopped completely and went he would have had to launch it to keep up.

What rpm were you shifting out of 3rd?

If you all went from a dig the race would have been extremely different.

Wow man, that's surprizing. Sounds like he had a significant amount done to that thing. Good run.

dig=you pwn him.

but, the rsx does have a nice 3rd and 4th gear. the way their powerband/gears are set-up it is definately the strongest point for that car. either way, nice races and happy-belated thanks everyone.

the type S redlines at 8K. the base model redlines at 6.5K.

the type S is a 6 speed, the base model comes in 5 speed or sport tronic. the type S does not come in automatic.

the base model RSX are slugs. my friends accord lx coupe took one, and my friends 89 benz E260 lost by only a car to one. ( my friend drives a RSX base model as a beater and its probrably one of the slowest cars i've ever been in ) so there is absolutely no way that could've been a base model.

the K20 in the type S actually have dual stage cam shafts with higher lift and duration. however the regular rsx from whati remember reading is that when its off v-tec it only opens 1 intake valve to save gas, and when v-tec hits then both intake valves open to make full power.

so the heart of the base model is not even performance at all.

I shifted at approx 6500, and im sure It woulda been different from a dig, but one cant be choosey. I was happy to have gotten the race, I rarely get the chance to flex...

Re: MR2 Turbo vs Acura RSX

You have the Ct26? ... your optimal shift point was probably closer to 5500 rpms.

Yeah, and im sure you're right about the shift point, I usually shift somewhere between 5.7-6.5 depending on when I start to loose boost....
