01 Sierra ABS problems

A few weeks ago I started having that weird problem with the abs activating at low speeds. When I pulled the front wheel sensors to clean them one was in obvious bad shape. The plastic housing was cracked and you could see the copper wire around the inductor coming off. I accidently broke the other one getting it out. Prior to my adventures the ABS light never was on, of course with all the damage I did, it was on now. I reinstalled both sensors (mainly to plug the holes). Then the ABS light was on (as it should be).

The problem is now that I have installed two brand new (oh, and expensive) front wheel sensors, my ABS light is still on! I tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 min, thinking the computer might need to be reset, but the lamp is still on. I've gone over my connections a few times, with no result. Outside of the obivious soluition of taking it to a dealer to get it checked out, can anybody shed any light on the subject for me?

If the light is still on after a repair, you may need to have it cleared using a bi-directional scan tool

You still have a problem that is turning on the light

After driving about 30 miles, the ABS light turned off. So I'm thinking... "hey this is great". Then I came to a stop sign and guess what? My original problem is back! (low speed engagement of the ABS). Here's what I am thinking.... When I pulled out the sensors, I saw a some grease on the pick-up wheel. Could that grease be causing interfernce with the ABS inductor? Or should I be more concerned with the air gap between the inductor and the pick-up wheel? Or should I investigate the rear sensor? Or should I just give up and get a bus pass?

I always fix it right the LAST time!

First thing I would do is have the codes pulled. this will lead you in the right direction on what sensor is most likely giving you the problem.
There is a GM TSB on low speed activation of the ABS..pretty much says to clean the sensor reluctor...I haven't had much luck with this and have found that replacing the sensor gives my customers a better result.

I had the same problem w/my 99 (new style). Found a bad wheel bearing that was sloppy and would cause the ABS to come on under slow speed breaking, usually turning. Replaced the bearing assy $180 and life was good. But now, in the snow, the ABS kicks on and the truck doesn't want to stop. VERY scary. Any suggestions?

Finally I have found someone else with the same deal. My brakes lock and the ABS sound kicks in at 8mph down to 4mph. The thing only has 24,000 miles on it and the dealer just replaced the sensors, but that didn't help at all.

Any ideas? My brakes are bad, but should that matter here? It is so weird that the low speed braking is messed up.
