Question '97 GC with bad CV front drive shaft

I have a '97 grand cherokee 5.2 FT 4wd that has a seperated front drive shaft CV joint. It has a 1.5 inch lift kit on it but is otherwise stock. I'm looking for a replacement for the CV joint or front drive shaft, Has anyone had any experience in swapping these out or converting to to the u-joint yoke on the differential to use a u-joint rather than a CV shaft?

I know you can replace the Axle CV with U Joints Im not sure about the drive shaft. MIght want to try www.jeephorizions.com or www.nagca.com both are more in to off roading and drive line upgrades.

Re: '97 GC with bad CV front drive shaft

The shaft probably seperated because of the lift. That shaft doesn't use a slip yoke. The length is set when the shaft is installed. There is a nut on the shaft that is torqued down and that locks the shaft at that length. If the height of the jeep is altered you are supposed to be able to loosen that nut and extend the shaft.Well I have been able to loosen them but I have never been able to get the shaft to move.As far as switching to a u-joint set up,it can be done. You have to change the yoke on the front axle.
