cross country driving
Do any of oyu think my 91 rs with 177,000 miles on a 305 with a 5 speed could make it like 3000 miles in 3 or four days? I need to move from oregon to oklahoma and it will be within the next week so i dont really have time to sell my car and i dont want to sell it to a dealer for only 500 or 600 buck but i wont have to money to fix it if it breaks down on the trip. Do any on you think it would make it? or am i better off getting what i can out of it? I really dont know. I dont have to knowledge about cars to determine this. I also know that stuff happens and it might not make it back even if others would so im just wondering if under good to average circumstances would any of you trust it to make it there?

Re: cross country driving
if you dont trust it, i wouldnt advise taking it.. How does the car run, how well is it maintained.. 177,000 miles is pretty damn high, but if properly maintained, can still be reliable
Take it to a mechanic and have them do an inspection on it, if you arent able to do it

it runs pretty good, ive maintianed it well for the last 7,000 miles that i've had it, i change the oil every 2,000 miles and ive changed the tranny fluid, when i changed the clutch 6,000 miles ago. i think i have a valve stem seal leak and it need exhaust. I' had the tranny feel like it was grinding a week ago when i shifted from 1st to second but i did run the tack out before i shifted. I dont usually run it hard, i dont race it. I think i might also have a problem with something in the front end. when i stopped fast at a light today i heard a kind of hard chunching sound from the front and i noticed that its pulling alittle to the right too. the noise wasnt loud. if i would have had my heater on i wouldnt have heard it. but it made the noise every time i took off from a stop too so not sure bought that. ohh and if i do take it i will chang the oil agian and change the tranny fluid agian. any advise would be appriciated.

Re: cross country driving
unless something is majorly wrong with it, i would trust it. I bought my IROC in arkansas, and drove 1100 miles home to virginia in a day without a hiccup. and she was a mess. I think you should definatly take it to the dealership, and have them do a travel checkover on it. they will look over all aspects of the car, and let you know if it needs anything done. Definatly mention the deal with your front brakes making the noise. you probly have a rock or pebble in your brake pad, and its grinding when you get on the brakes. but aside from that, if she drives good, and isnt blowing smoke, and you have no reason NOT to trust her, id say youre fine.

Re: cross country driving
i bet that noise from stopping is either a broken brake pad, or seized up caliper.
