Re: r32 Vs. wrx ?????

only know STI:

1/4 mile STI
0-60 STI
60-120 (somethign like that) R32
smoothness R32 (v6 non-turbo smoothass engine)
track R32, it's made for it

those are what I know from mags. and sites, results may vary though
still that's about right

as for clubs: www.vwcola.net try there
top gear did a test once, when the r32 first came out in europe, beat the wrx wagon on the track by a whole second.

Honest Answer?

I am a VW enthusiast all the way. I own a GTI 1.8T.

Let me say first the R32 is a much nicer car.

The STI would SMOKE it easily. The regular WRX is supposedly neck and neck on the 1/4 mile at around 14.5s on paper. But VW is known to spit out some modest numbers. European enthusiasts magazines have almost all clocked the stock r32 at the lower end of the 14s.

If your going to get an STI, remember you have to add things like audio, A/C etc. as options. Where as the R32 has climate control, Leather, and Monsoon sound included. On the performance end you can add a stage 1 VF supercharcer to an R32 installed to give you more horsepower and speed to the buck versus an STI with out taking away that smooth German flavor.

All opinion and preference in my opinion.

Re: r32 Vs. wrx ?????

dont get any european for drag/street racing. its not what its meant for. quarter-mile times never really matter to me. when was the last time you drove your car in a perfectly straight line (and had fun?). the r32, like many other european cars, are made for the pleasure(s) of driving. thats why they handle great out of the box.

which is why when i see topgear's test... i go crazy

Re: r32 Vs. wrx ?????

i have heard that the build quality of the VW has gone downhill in recent years. is that only true of the cheaper models? are some still made in germany? this info, by the way, came from a friend who had total brand loyalty. he never bought anything but VWs for 20 years and then they started dying on him in lame ways.

please enlighten me!

i am interested in looking into VWs and i can't decide whether to try the financed high-end newer ones or get an old rabbit or GTI that i can afford to buy outright.

An STi will destroy the R32 in...everything. Especially handling. And it's about a second faster in the quarter mile.

I am for the older VW's MKII's. there are alot of options for them, many people seem to modify them uniquely w/o the rice look.

if you are looking for clubs in your area, go to www.vwvortex.com, you can search by region to see what local dubbers are doing.

as for the STI and R32? STI hands down would win. I love VW's but the STI right now compared to many cars is basically the bully of the block for what it has. out of the box race car. I would love to have one, but for that money I am looking at the 350Z, EVO, and I do love that new Mustang GT. so many decisons.
