Re: Door Ajar Wont Go Off!

Same problem here with a 95 Continental.

Ended up pulling the fuse for the interior (map) lights until I can figure out what's wrong.

Did you find anything?

I DISCONNECTED MY POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE, AND LEFT IT OVERNIGHT, AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY.

I think your problem might return.

I found this article by searching the net:

http://www.lincolnsonline.com/article89.html

I lubricated as indicated, replaced the fuse, and it seems to be working.

Not sure how long this will last, but it was worth a try...

My 95 Conti did the same thing. It was the driver side door. I sprayed the drivers side door latch with a lot of WD40 then I would open and shut door several times to work the WD40 into the latch. I repeated this a bunch of times and finally the door adjar light went out. I then proceded to do my other three doors in the same manner. Problem has been gone for 3 months now. This seems to be a Ford problem my 96 Ford Winstar had the same problem. It was the rear hatch latch and the side cargo door that was the problem . WD40 and a half hour of open and closing doors took care of the problem on that car also.

I had the same problem with my '95 Continental and sprayed the door latches a little. The door ajar warning stayed off for 3 days and reappeared. I resprayed with more WD40 and the warning has not appeared for the past 3 months. Am I happy I did not send my auto to the electrical mechanic as this would have been big bucks. I have even removed the plyers from my car as I do not have to remove the fuse since the inside lights no longer stay on. Thank you all for the tip. It works!

There is door pin in that latch. I have a similiar problem that the passenger door did not activate the lights when the door opened. I found out that there's a switch located on that latch. You have to take the door panel off if you wish to be through. You can use the spray WD-40 all over method and waist a can...or spend a few more minutes to take apart your door....my 2 cents!

Re: Door Ajar Wont Go Off!

Sometimes the door switches go and the interior dome light stays on for a while on a timer. There are generally 2 switch types and both are easy to remove but can be tricky to replace!

Re: Door Ajar Wont Go Off!

Old thread, but spraying the latches fixed the "Door Ajar" and interior lights coming on problems in my girlfriend's 98 Continental.

Glad I came hear and searched for this before bringing to the repair shop.

Thanks Automotive Forums!!

Re: Door Ajar Wont Go Off!

If one of the door strikers are off position it will also generate a Ajar Door Alarm!
