code 214, need MAJOR help on a '95

how is everyone. at the moment i own a 1995 ford escort wagon with 110,000 miles on it. in about november of last year the engine light started to come on when the car would warm up a bit. i didnt much worry about it until i took it too get smogged (yes i live in cali), they set the car up, and it ended up failing becasue the engine light came on (the law in california if the light is on, the car wont pass). so i took it to ford and they tried working on it. they found the problem (code 214, cylinder ID curciut failure) but didnt know how to fix it. they say it can be 1 of 3 things but just dont no. they also say it would cost more to fix the problem than what the cars worth. now i am in DESPERATE need of my scort, but i just cant drive it. anyone with any knowledge on how to fix this problem, plees leave a post, thank x

I don't think much of that Ford Service Dept but they were right about one thing...if THEY fix it, it WILL be more than the car is worth.

Did they tell you what the 3 things were?

I'd think about...

Ignition coil pack (where the plug wires go) ~$40 at autozone...Seems like you'd get a coil pack code, tho.

Ignition module (Normally between battery and fuse box) ~$90 at autozone...it tells the coil pack when to fire each spark plug...it could be "confused".

Powertrain Control Module (PCM) ~$220

Did you ever get this fixed? I finally fixed mine with a new PCM but it took forever... there is just NO information out there.

cylinder ID is the cam sensor. Make sure it's plugged in and the wires are good.

Re: code 214, need MAJOR help on a '95

For people that get code 214 there is very little information out there to figure out what to do. I received lots of ideas through this forum, but never solved it.
I had checked wires, had replaced the sensor, took lots of readings... in the end, swapping out the PCM made the light go away. Had that not worked I would have tried the ICM as it is also in the circuit.
The 214 error indicates a problem in the CID circuit... but it is not necessarily with the cam sensor itself.
