what size are the door speakers in a 97 without bose?
im starting to work on the stereo starting with some infinity kappas... i am looking at a 1" tweeter, a midrange, and a crossover in each door, as well as a 6x9 2-way + cross in the back.

everywhere i look lists a different speaker size for the door (the lower midrange)... ive seen 5.25, 6.5, 6.75... what the hell size is it?? (i dont want to take them out until i have hte new ones, if possible)

i was told they are 6.75's... whats a good way to make a 6.5 fit?
also, whats the tweeter size??
i am thinking about a component set that has a 1" tweeter

they use 6.75 but many 6.5s have adapter ring or they are available, uses a simple block in positive wire off woofer terminals to tweeter which I believe is pretty standard 1" GM- easy replacement- door panel comes off easily then remove map holder from rear of panel to access the speakers-

thanks... thats what i was hoping. i bought some kappa perfect 6.5" component separates (6.5 mid, 1" tweet) for the front (with crossovers of course) and kappa 2-way 6x9s (w/ cross) for the rear. cant wait to get them so i can throw those babies in.

They will sound awesome, thats pretty much the exact setup I have although I don't have perfect, just kappa component. The tweeters fit perfectly although there is some exposed trim that doeans't look that good. I'm working on a solution.

What amp are you going with. I think I need something bigger

i havent amped them yet... rather than buy all my pieces at the same time, im getting them one at a time and getting really nice stuff... i cant afford to get all the nice stuff at once right now (damn school)
im glad your kappas sound great, im looking forward to putting mine in.
i might go with an Digital Audio amp... they are the same company that makes rockford and mb quart i believe... my roommate is getting one from them for his mb quart reference speakers in his avenger.
i guess these are the companies i "think" are good (im not a car audio expert): alpine, digital audio-rockford-mbquart... maybe audiobahn? i need help here guys =)
as for size... i will assume you bought a kappa 60.5cs... they handle 90 watts rms so i guess get a 100rms x 4 amp? if it really puts out 100rms x 4 then i wouldnt go bigger... if it is rated at 100 but puts out like 50, then sure go bigger...

I have a 40 RMS x 4 channel right now, which is very loud but sometimes I want it louder and the dangerous thing is that once you get near the power limit of the amp and it starts clipping you can do (and I have) damage to the speakers.

You really should get an amp though soon, thats when you'll really see a difference between the stock setup and the new setup. The stock system in the aurora is actually pretty good (even non bose).

yeah... i do want to get it soon but i need to make sure my finances are in order... and im also looking at throwing some cash over to the guys at nitrous express lol...
i was looking at the alpine mfv-f540 - its 80w x 4 @ 4ohms... but its kinda steep ($600 retail, idk what i could get if for).

you are playing with the same setup i have. Kappas all around is the ticket. the front doors were a breeze, just be careful taking them apart. I too was fooled by crotchfield on the front door size. I beleive they are 6.5'', but i made the 5.25s work.
THe rear 6x9s are real easy too. but disapointed with the sound compared to my previous car. 75watts RMS via rockford, seems like enuf boost for that setup. Good luck

I have an Alpine MRV-F340 (55X4) rms and it goes about as loud as I need it. The tweeters hurt my ears after a while and I even have them turned down. I have Rockford component FNX 6 3/4. They are very good sounding and was very easy to mount the crossover half hidden in the map pocket on the door. Also I would advise people to try to mount the aftermarket tweeter beind the little stock grille. I just snapped the tweeters out from the front, removed the stock tweeter, then just took epoxy to the new tweeters and went to town. The Rockford ones fit very nice behind stock grilles. I then just popped them in. I liked how it made everything look stock except for the visible crossovers but those are out of the way anyhow… good luck with your install.

thanks for the tips. i should be getting them this week and will install them this weekend. would anyone be interested in me taking pictures to document the install of front and rear? it would be a direct replacement since dont have an amp yet.
