Idle Problems....still.

I know theres a lot of threads on this topic, but none seem to get as indepth as i need(or far enough in the process of fixing it). I have a high idle surge, from 1000rpm - 1300rpm, its not the high idle that really bothers me, its the surge. I have checked for vaccum leaks, i replaces all the hoses, all three that go on the top of the TPS, and the one, that goes way in back. I put in a new o-ring for the BISS, i did the BISS adjustment, with ground the 2 points out, and that gave me no results. What do i do now??? I still have the surge, is it the TPS, and where can i get one? IS the same for all models(esi, tsi, tsi-awd), and how hard is it to replace, and find/cost. Thanks

Thank you so much, that page is awesome, i didn't even find the brake booster hose, i bet thats cut too, since i found that all the hoses were factory, and the car has 141,000miles. Now tell me why did i choose to work all weekend straight? I guess saturday morning will be a good day, i'll post back on my findings. One question those, the idle speed switch, where is it, is it the plug behind the battery, or is it behind the CAS?

Re: Idle Problems....still.

you know, the best answer i can give you is (for what i understand) the 2g TPS has 4 wires while the 1g TPS has 3. the forth is the closed throttle position switch. im not a 100% sure but i think your tps is your idle speed switch. might wana double check that though.

Re: Idle Problems....still.

yes scottsee your right. on a 2g the idle speed switch (also known as a closed throttle switch) is part of your tps

But i have a 1g, so that doesn't really mean anything to me, unless i plan on switching out the tps.

Re: Idle Problems....still.

i that case your idle switch is on the firewall side of your throttle body the throttle cable spring hits it when it stops. its one green wire that always breaks off just crimp on a new connector and plug it in

Re: Idle Problems....still.

If all this BS doesnt fix it, start looking at the ISC. There are a couple pages as well as haynes/etc manuals that give the testing procedure. Basically you measure the resistance with an ohmeter across the termials, it tells how. www.crebotech.com comes to mind as well, I think they have some info there. Hopefully that URL is correct. Good luck, idle problems are a bitch to track down, but you can learn a LOT in the process.

So far i have learned alot, i love doing this work on my car, but only if the problem gets fixed while i'm doing it. 1stgenrocks: You said that the green wire always breaks, could i just solder on a new wire, if that would be my idle problem?

Re: Idle Problems....still.

Better to just crimp on a connector. If I remember correctly, it would just be a female spade.

Okay guys, i just put in a new TPS, i ohmetered mine, and it was shot, but my car still has idle surge, so next up is brand new spark plug wires, and spark plugs, because mine are shot, really shot. If that is not the fix, then a entire new throttle body is what i'll need. If anyone has a NON-TURBO THROTTLE BODY, please tell me, i need one!
