'96 LSS lighting & remote problems

Having trouble with my keylesss remote sytem on my '96 LSS.

You have to be right on top of the car for the sytem to lock/unlock doors / access trunk. I replaced the battery in both remotes with no improvement in performance.

Also I think there is something wrong with the theatre lighting system in the car....according to the manual the lights should come on and stay on for at least 25 seconds once the doors are unlocked and car entered to give you time to get situated (put key in ignition etc) mine does not do that, they dim immediately once the door is closed. They should also come on when you shut the car off for exiting purposes, ( finding door handle, getting your things)

Are these two sytems related Is there a sensor or something that I need to replace ?
