Manual vs. Automatic

I am just now starting to look for another Talon or Eclipse. I had a '92 TSi 5 speed when I was 19. I want one again. It is hard to find them in good shape with a 5 speed. I have found a couple with auto's but don't know how much of a pain it is to get them to perform like a manual trans. What do you have to do to get them to feel like a manual. Can it be done without spending major $$$$? Thanks

You should read FAQ Before you ask questions...pay attention to the stickeys....there are lots of threads about this already.

Edit: I did a search that took 2 sec... and I found 4 pages of stuff on Automatic and Manual tranys... i'm sure your answer is there...Thanks!

Re: Manual vs. Automatic

If you are going to search for him, at least post the links you found

I'm also a bastard about the searching thing, but I'll try to sum it up quick. For about the cost of a 2600 clutch, maybe a little more, you can do endclutches and shift kit/springs. The auto will then be good for about 400 whp, plenty of poeple do more. Autos generally can take more torque than a manual just based on the differences in design. But they also have thier limits. A FULL rebuild on an auto is more than a manual at ~2800 bucks. But thats for poeple running 9s. And there are some advantages to autos like to turbo lag between gears, etc. There are drawbacks too. But I'm sure all that info is in the other threads in the archives.
