93 Z28 ignition problem......ECM, DIST.,COIL???

Hi, I've got a problem with my engine missing. It's an LT-1 and it's got about 185k on it. It has a hard time starting and you've really got to baby it for the first couple minutes until it warms up. I changed the optispark dist. cap and cables last year for the same problem and it seemed to help, but then started doing the same thing after a few months and now it's even worse. it's died on me a few times at low rpm or idle. It's got a low coolant code, but I think that's from not all the cylinders firing. It seems to have fuel because when I did a compression check two plugs had fuel on them and every once in a while you can hear a little rattling which I was told was the raw fuel making it to the converter. The compression was from 190-210psi. I just changed the spark plugs and cables a couple weeks ago. Does anyone have any ideas, coil, ignition module, dist. cap again???

you might need to change the whole optispark, not just the cap. i've heard of coolant leaking on these and destroying them

low coolant code is not caused by a misfire, its caused because you have low coolant. sounds to me like your water pump is leaking, and corroded the innards of your optispark. youll have to replace both complete units.

I'm getting a coolant low temp code, not low coolant. Do you know what a good route would be to replace the whole ignition system and how much it would cost? I've heard of some people changing the whole optispark system. Thanks.

the problem is not the "system" its the distributor assembly. on the front of the engine, the coil, ICM all that is fine. as far as the coolant low temp code, it could be due to a faulty coolant temp sensor, or a failed thermostat.
