Ford Explore 1993 fan only works on high speed where is the relay located

The blower only runs on high. There must be a relay that controls the blower speed. Does someone know where itis located.

I have a similar problem with the auto climate control in my 1999 Explorer Eddie Bauer. Except, it's imtermittent. Sometimes it runs fine. Other times the fan will only run when manually set to high speed, and stops when any lower speed is selected. Ford service suggested possible problem with fan resistor, but I don't see how a resistor problem could produce this kind of result. Anybody have any ideas?

A blower that only works on high is the culprit of either wiring or a blower resistor. Most of the time it's a blower resistor. In 1991 Explorers the resistor is just to the right of the blower motor, just follow the two leads from the motor, they will lead you right to it.

There are two screws you need to remove ( 5/16 ").

The Resistor block will look something like this. (this is the factory one)

To diagnose if your problem lies with this block you need to use a pen light or a multimeter and test continuity or resistance between point A and point B. If there is no continiuity or resistance, you need to replace the part. I paid $17us for mine at the local ford dealership, the local town parts store wanted $25us.

If the block is not the issue, check your wiring for burns, shorts, or teminations.

BTW, be careful not to touch the plane that sepperates the plug from the internal parts, fiberglass plate... itchy. This also might be a good time to vacuum out the A/C radiator box as this impedes air flow that helps the resistor block maintain proper temperature.
