Re: remote start

You'll see my other post on the link above. Your best bet is something like the Valet 561t. However, your range will be severly short compared even to the cheapest Valet (561r) that has it's own remotes. See, the system has to be set up for you to press the lock button on the OEM remote like 2 or 3 times. The problem is that most OEM remotes are only good for about 50' at best. The Valet 561r and 562t can do 500'. If you pick the next one up from them like Python, you can get 1000' with a Python 561p or even more with a 2way responder. These ranges are in a perfect environment though so if you are in a bad urban setting, they will be a little shorter.

Command start

I have the Viper and it works great. I've had it on two vehicles so far. I needed one with 1/4 mile range. I wish I had a remote that indicates if the truck has started though. If you can't see it then you don't know if it's started or not. I noticed in a flyer the other day that those that do tell you when the motor started have a much shorter range. There also more expensive. Where I work I have to park about 500yds+ away and behind railway cars and it still works.

I have a 2000 silverado with a remote starter/alarm combo and it has the 2 way page system. it tells you if the vehicle has started also if the alarm is going off. I live in Winnipeg and have been as far away as approx 1500 feet and it has still worked. It is an Arctic start and it is made by compustar. There is also a model above the one that i got that has up to one mile range but i did not get it , for one thing it was a little more expensive and i do not need that kind of range. I paid about 600 for the unit installed and hooked up to my door locks.....also had to pay for module to bypass the factory alarm system (the name escapes me right now)

Hey there, I also wanted to get a remote/alarm combo put in my 04 Silverado. Does anyone know if you can get a two way that combo that also has audio response to let you know that the vehicle is protected. I remember a guy had a viper system that when he locked his truck, it would say "viper armed"

Re: remote start

I think every alarm that I have ever seen will at least honk the horn and/or flash the lights to acknowledge arming.

Not so. If you have a Viper RS from within the last few years, you can add the 2way feature. It is about $125 to do so but works. Did it on one of my demo vehicles. It was great not having to rewire a new system in.

Yes, it is an add on unit/siren. DEI has a few different models. Some have a computer generated voice that can say simple things while others will let you record the messages you want. You'll need 2 bypasses to make the remote start work great with your vehicle. One is the 555L for the passlock ignition and the other is 456g for the factory entry alarm and doorlocks. This is only for the '03-'05 trucks.

Just a 555L system for the passlock2 ignition system.

Yep but not all remote starters though. Hey, how do you like the Escalade's cluster? I have been thinking of doing the same to my '01 Silverado but am afraid what to do with the miles. I don't tow too much but when I do, it's usually pretty heavy so a tranny temp. gauge would be nice.

Re: remote start

I have a picture of mine installed in the truck in this post:

http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=321414

I like it very well. It matches my truck for one (being blue) and all gauges work fine. My opinion it looks alot better than the white face denali cluster. As far as miles go, the cluster doesn't care how many are on it, it wont effect performance. If you want it to match current miles on your truck take it to a local shop that does cluster work. I just kept note of how many miles are on my original and how many are on the new one and figure it out that way.

Yeah thanks. I was curious because the ECM holds the mileage too. All anyone has to do is plug in the TechII programmer and read it. My truck is also Indigo Blue but mine is 4wd. I love your rims. That's the last thing I need to do. I got a great alarm, remote start, JVC PICT CD/MP3, Directed 8" wide screen DVD system, cool air intake, and custom striping. I just don't have the $$ for rims at the moment.
