2.0L DOHC Turbo Rebuild

I just bought a 95 Talon with a 2.0L DOHC Turbo. It has a spun main bearing and some piston and valve damage. What would be the best cheap rebuild for this engine? Not looking for really high performance just want to get it running again. Just want to know what works and what doesn't and where to get good resonably priced part?

Re: 2.0L DOHC Turbo Rebuild

93 will have a 7 bolt, some late and rare 92s also have 7 bolts. But I would do the same thing if you are looking to make some power someday. You can also find ~80-100k mile 7 bolts that havent crankwalked for cheap money. Either way try to find a shortblock that was running when it was pulled and had good compression. Then you can just drop it in. Get your head rebuilt (or 1g head) and toss it on with all the usual tbelt bullshit.

Talon is a 95 TSI Turbo

My Talon is a 95 TSI Turbo. I should be able to rebuild if there hasn't been much damage done right? I shouldn't have to buy a new engine.

Re: 2.0L DOHC Turbo Rebuild

Odds are the piston valve damage is from a skipped or broken tbelt? In that case, the piston survives just fine almost every single time. In fact in 5 years I have never seen or heard of a piston not being reusable. If the compression was still good up to that point, all you really need is a head rebuild and some valves. A full rebuild with guides and valves usually comes out to 300 with my machinist. Then another 300 for tbelt and water pump parts. Might as well do ARP studs as well, since you shouldnt reuse 2g head bolts anyway and they are almost as much. Head gasket is 60 bucks, or you can get a top end kit for ~150.

If there was piston damage you'll need a piston. If the cylinder walls are worn or damaged you'll need block machining and oversized pistons. Looking at at least about 600 there.

Re: 2.0L DOHC Turbo Rebuild

One of my Talons is an N/T and I put a hole in the block when I threw a rod. I bought a new block from a junkyard for $50 and all I can use is the crank and the block itself which needs bored out. I am doing it myself and after pistons/rings/gaskets/motor paint/cleaner/bearings/and a couple other fun upgrades it only cost me about $600 here is a website that has OEM or better parts for cheap.

you should be able to find everything you need there.
