Talking Shackles

Does anyone know anything about the Conn-Ferr 2 1/2" shackles, besides the fact that they are a 1/2" taller than the SLR Shackles. Are the Con-Ferr Shackles a good quality compared to the SLR's. Please let me know what your views are. I'm hoping someone knows a little something.

I don't know anything about the Con-Ferr shackles but I can tell you that SLR offers 1", 2" and 2.5" shackles.

Philosopher,

I know some of you guys who have got the 2" shackles from SLR have cranked their t-bars up 1 1/2" to kinda even out the way it sits. Now if I got the 2 1/2" shackles would it be good for me to crank the t-bars up 2" How should this make my ride feel?

What I did:

Installed the 2" SLR shackles to gain back my stock attitude (my truck was sitting level). Then installed the new t-bars and my truck was level again - knowing this would happen I installed the AAL on the same day to (once again) get the stock attitude back.

Cranking the torsion bars makes your ride stiffer up front and takes away downtravel, but I personally haven't noticed too much of a ride difference. You could always install the shackles (or AAL) if you want a bit more height in the back and then decide if you want to crank the torsion bars a little to compensate ...

So philosopher, maybe I'm just being dumb, but when you installed your new t-bars did you crank them up or did you set back same as stock. And when you said you wanted to gain back the stock attitude what did you mean. And what are AAL's.

Not being dumb ...

The new t-bars are stiffer than the stock ones such that you don't need to crank them nearly as much to attain the same lift or a bit more than what you had before.

Stock attitude = the back of the truck sits 2" higher than the front.

AAL = Add a leafs - check the other threads under "suspension" for what I did, the new measurements for my truck, etc ...

Conn-Ferr has been around a while. I have had 2" lift shackles on my Jeep for a couple of years. I think they are made by Conn-Ferr, but I'm not sure. I have seen their adds in magazines for several years.
