Would this motor fit?

I got a 1973 ford capri, with a six in it. I know i coudl fit a 302 engine in it ,but would a chevy 350 fit? I owuld rather get the 350 since it's cheaper and has more power.

Virtually anywhere you want, you can put a 350. That Capri is not like the '80s version. It's a German-made car with no American "provisions". Putting a V8 in it (of any family) would require complete refabrication of the front subframe and suspension. The rear suspension would also require complete upgrading, or it wouldn't survive.

Well i already found instructions on putting a 302 in it, with out any of the fabrication. So i think a 350 would most likely fit then. I jsut would prefer it then the 302 since it i cheaper and has more power.

You want power...try a 351W or if you can find it, a 351C...the perfomance market has a lot of options to make big HP from the 302 as well, you could stroke it up to 347cid

Well my grandfather and I jsut bought a 68 cougar today with a 302 2v, so we're going to rebuild it and drop it into the capri. even if it's stock spec. that car will fly since it's so small. Then we're going to get a 351 or better a 390

you should stick with the 109 b18 acura engine. i also own an integra, and it just feels better after you beat a car when you have half as many cylinders. my friend has a 94 integra ls with an ls/vtec conversion and minor mods, he runs low 13s all day and has run a 12.9. oh yeah, thats all motor with no spray.

I'm of the opinion the brakes and steering in the German Capri are inadequate for any real performance driving.
So, after an engine change and some "mods", a Honda is almost as quick as a stock GTO or Cobra? We see and hear about these Jap cars going fast all the time. Sometimes, we even SEE one! Usually, it's the same game as "back in the day", when everybody and their brother had a 12 second small block Camaro or Mustang. But, in a real race, my 13 second GTO would eat them up. Point? The fast Honda is the exception, not the rule. They DO exist, but not in near the volume many believe, as it takes a real good engine builder to extract the necessary power to do the things claimed. There are certain laws of physics that will not be denied. Regardless of published data, you can't make as much power from 2 liters as you can 5. Do the math.

Well i ahve no idea how this got into integras and hondas, with my dads capri he'd smoke a lot of hondas since his car his car is much lighter then most cars of that time, wth a powerful small block in it compared to his stock 6 it'd be a monster.

But i do have an integra and i gonna do a ls/tec if i don't get a gs-r, but i agree that it's how u build the engine and how good u are at it.

yes, there are alot more really quick 8 cylinder cars out there, but 4 cylinders cant be ignored anymore. there are even fwd 4 cylinders running consistent 7s, and there are plenty 6 cylinder imports running 6s. you have to admit that getting a 1.8 liter all motor car in single digits is pretty remarkable.

bad4g63, I've seen some 7 second 6 cylinder cars, but they were on alcohol, and rear wheel drive. Zero were "normally aspirated". I saw the NOPI Nats at Dinwiddie, and have seen NOPI Tunervision (or whatever...). The quickest 4 cylnder cars were in the high 7s, also RWD (tube chassis, real drag cars). I have a friend that builds some of the Honda "mini-monsters". These engines certainly make the power! They certainly cost A LOT to build. They certainly don't live very long... He says the fastest normally aspirated FWD Honda in the country (4 cylinders, under 2.5 lr.) runs 8.40s. He built the engine. It cost well over $8K. It lasts about 12 passes before in needs new rings and rod bearings.

As a professional engine builder, I can appreciate what is being done. What I don't understand is all the hooplah around it, like nobody ever built 4-cyliners with power before Hondas. In the '50s, Drake and Offenhauser 4 cylinders dominated the Indy 500. In the early '60s, Mickey Thompson broke 300 MPH at Bonneville, with a Pontiac 4-cylinder (195 CID) powered car. The Lotus Europa Twin Cam is legendary. The Cosworth Vega, Turbo T-Bird, and on and on.
Make sure, when making claims about the speed potential of the pocket rocket, you also include "curb weight". Power-to-weight is every bit as important as overall power. Most of those tube chassis cars weigh right at, or less than 2,000 lbs. vs. the 3,500 you're trying to compare them to. Put a 9 second 454 in a 2,000 lb. car and what do you have? Pro Comp dragster, running 5s.

apparently youre not familiar with the nhra sport compact or the ndra record books, or youd know about the several 6.7 200+mph 6 cylinder cars in the nhra sport compact pro rwd class. and you would also see that there is a fwd 4 cylinder car running mid 7s at a little under 200 mph. http://ndra.nopi.com/ndra_2k4/kd_dsp...l.cfm?vaid=250
