Re: need help guys 92 celica 4ws
you dont have to worry that much about it.
what you gotta do is just lean over in the wheel wells, if there is specks of rust or holes then you more then likely got rust underneath too. i have that problem no big deal to me. as far as suspension, brakes? just test drive it and you will feel the wrongness....i suggest for suspension just run over some rail road tracks or larger bumps, and for brakes go to a stop sign and dont step on the brakes right away and come to a complete stop quickly. as far as mileage, you really have no clue, carquest quote thing might help but i dont know much about that stuff. and aircon i dont know what that is? and engine problems, the most possible problem you might have is a broken or cracked motor mount, its seems that all celicas go throught that in their lifes. Also around the head there might be a leak for oil it wont leak very much at all, but if it does its easily fixed with new seals or gaskets, they help much for leakage, i have that problem but my car has 200,000 on it. im sure you wont have any other problem but there is that problem here and there that no one can predict. if you want to feel the engine, just rev it to 6 when your in parked and little for rattles and weird noises.....also when you driving just floor it then let off and see if there is any noises or weird pulling. if your engine pulls then you may have a problem within the next years. also when you start the car turn the key crank it till it starts, and if their is a pause before the engine sparks up then you prolly have a bad starter. there is many things to check but most is common sense. |

Re: need help guys 92 celica 4ws
You can call the HPi centre who will do a history check on your car for about £30, they will tell you what the milage should be, if its been nicked, writen off, crashed etc. (Their number is 01722 422422) always worth it if your buying from a private source.
As for your Aircon (AC) turn it on and put it onto its coldest setting, if you get really cold air then its a pretty safe bet the aircon works but you can do your usual fluid level checks, Like NyneWun said, check for oil leaks around the top of the engine, also under it around the sump, drive shafts. Look for odd coloured smoke from the exhaust on start up. Also when you get there, feel the top of the bonnet (hood) to see if its warm, if its been run to warm it up, the seller might be trying to hide some problems that only show when the engine is cold. Another break test you can do is to break from about 30mph and let go of the steering wheel to see if it pulls to one side under breaking, can be caused by accident damage, bad breaks etc etc. Rust - check under the wheel archews like mentioned, also under the sills that run under the doors. Finally check under the bonnet right near the front around the headlights, (take a torch with you)see if there are any out of shape, bent pieces of metal, another sign of a crash. (not all crashes are logged) also do the same in the boot, but look for a rippled effect on the floor of the boot (rear end shunt). Oh and dont forget the most important check of all, kicking the tyres. best of luck with your new purchase. Just thought on summit else, check the towing eyes are straight, (usually hiden away under the car) bent towing eyes could indicate a shunt, but check carefully as they might just be bent from use.

I've never heard of a 5th gen celica GT-"R" with 4WS. Isn't 4WS four wheel steering?

hey i work at a car lot and we buy used cars at dealer auctions we mainly check the tranny cuz there expensive 2 work on. start it and hold ur foot on the break and put it in and out of gear go in every gear and if it clanks goin in and out of gear or if the car jerks hard then u might have a problem. also after u shut it off check the tranny fluid and see if there is metal shavings on the dipstick if so ur in 4 trouble that means the gears have been banged up and shifted hard. and if u do buy the car then a good thing 2 do is change the tranny filter and be sure and changle the oil. the brakes are an easy fix so i wouldnt worry 2 much about them but if the pedal goes 2 the floor then theres a problem. look at the front rotors ( u can usually see them through the wheel) if they have grooves the u need new brakes if not and they dont squeak then there ok. i hope i helped

Re: need help guys 92 celica 4ws
The GT-R with 4WS is a Japanese spec car, since he's buying it second hand I would guess its a used import, either in the UK or here in New Zealand.
