1992 Metro throttle body

I am needing and possibly have located a throttle body for my 1992 metro. The only problem I have is that I don't know if there is any difference between a TBI for an automatic and straight shift.... someone please let me know.... now for another question....

I swapped engines and did a head overhaul. When I put the "new" old motor in I had to swap TBI because the "New" old motor came out of a 1991 and the TBI is a little different. I've now gone thru 3 TBI's and still have not got one to squirt fuel into the intake. It starts great on starting fluid and when I pour raw gas down the TBI... big problem is that I can't get my old lady to stay under the hood pouring gas down the TBI while I'm driving down the road and I thought it would be better to fix the problem....too, I just hate it when we soak it with gas and it back fires and flames take over.... had that little problem last night... thank God I was able to smother it out quickly with a big towel.

So, if the TBI is getting full electrical juice and no fuel is coming out the injector nozzle reckon just what the problem might be?????

check the throttle position sensor, there is a square style and a round style, the plugs are different and you can't just change the tps, count the pics on your and count the pins on new one. other than that should be same

Thanks for the reply. I found a throttle body off of a 91 which is a little different but was able to take the top half off and swap with the 92. When I tried to start the motor it was the same problem.... no fue coming from the injector nozzle. I get good voltage from the wires to the injector. I'm just wondering if there could be other problems than a bad injector or whether to just try junk yards for another throttle body that works.

Re: 1992 Metro throttle body

have you check your fuel pressure? it should be 12-15 psi with engine running and about 22 with pump on and engine off. also pull fuel line off throttle body and put it in a bottle and turn key on and make sure you have a good stream coming out, with engine not running it will only run pump for about 4 seconds each time you turn key on. if you have tried that many throttle bodies i doubt they are the problem. also on the motor swap you should just have used your old intake and throttle body off the 92. it would have bolted right on to the 91 engine

Yep, got a very good stream of fuel coming out....and we did use the original intake and throttle body. The car was not running when I got it and also had no compression on #2 cyliner. Rather than rebuild it (for the 3rd time) I swapped blocks out of another car and had the head rebuilt. Now it has perfect compression all the way across. I don't have a way to check the fuel pressure but since I've got an 89 Probe with a very similar problem maybe it is time for me to invest in some kind of fuel pressure gauge.

Re: 1992 Metro throttle body

fuel pressure gauge is about $35 at most parts stores. to check if the injector is firing get a 12 volt trouble light. will be a 2 wire plug toward top of throttle body. with key on one of these wires will be live. like most cars geo turns the ground off and on to fire the injector. hook the test light to a ground, turn the ignition on and find the +12 wire. then with wire unplugged from throttle body hook light between + side of battery and non hot side of wire. have someone crank engine over. light should flash while it is cranking. if it doesn't flash you might have a bad computer. if it still won't start after checking to see if injector is getting power and fuel pressure is 12-15 psi let me know, i have a few throttle bodies that i know work

Thanks man, I've had a very active weekend and my phone line (and DSL) have been out for 3 days. I'll be trying that trick tomorrow if I can get in my shop. Got alot to accomplish if I want a pay check.
