Iac

I think my IAC needs cleaning. Can anyone give me pointers on how to do this? I'm a chick...not that it matters...I can do this. I just need somewhat specific instructions as to where to find the IAC and what steps to take. I'd really like to skip the trip to the mechanic if possible. Thanks in advance.

IAC= Idle Air Controller.

What year, engine size & model do you have?

On my Rodeo, I removed and cleaned the IAC, it was easy to do. The only special tool I needed was a Torx screwdriver.

The cleaning made no difference at all.

When I had the dealer perform an engine analysis, they said my IAC was "slow to react" and installed a new one. The part cost me $72.37.

It made my engine run a little better, not much.

Strange, but replacing all of the accessory drive belts made a bigger difference in the way my engine runs than replacing the IAC.

Go figure...

twomoon- I'm not 100% on this, but I dont think the 1998+ 3.2 has an idle air control system. Pretty sure the *throttle by wire* system takes it's place. If it has an IAC, it will be mounted right around the throttle plate. You probably just need a good intake, throttle plate, EGR & possibly MAF cleaning. A few minutes & a can of spray intake cleaner is all it takes.
G/luck
