mist ont he windshield
hey friends:
Got a question. On my 2000 blazer without the A/C on it produces a mist on the inside of the windshield. It's more like vapor...it's hot. When taking up speed it disappears. When turning the A/C on it disappears. What I should be looking into? where should beginning to dig? thanks.

Re: mist ont he windshield
Does this mist have any "smell" to it...are you loosing any antifreeze...Also has it been very wet where you live lately of have you recently scrubbed your carpet...When you have your A/C on it takes out the moisture in the air, that is why it is clearing it up..I believe by default that when you turn your defrosters on the A/C pump is turned on also to help in this drying effect...If there is no coolant leakage and no "smell" you just have excessive amount of moisture in the vehicle... When it's a sunny day out try to leave a few windows down an inch and get rid of the moisture..

Re: mist ont he windshield
If it smells you have a bad heater core. If not go with what fractured said... Condesation build up.

thanks for your quick answer... howerver, there's no smell and i've not cleaned my carpet since more than a year... i can tell that the wheather is kind of wet, but I think this is not weather related.
The moisture forms just out of the vent exhaust (on top of the dashboard). it's not in the whole windshield. it's loacalized. another conclusion is that the moist does not form if the car in shut down (conditions to form: car turned on, A/c turned off, car not moving (like in a traffic)) I thought that it should be kind of problem with the heater but i really does not how the A/C & heater does have the configuration on this kind of truck.. any guess?

Re: mist ont he windshield
And the moisture isn't oily/slick? Good... Then probably you have some water pooled in your vent system. Try running it straight heat (non AC) for a couple of days and see if it clears it up.

Re: mist ont he windshield
Hi, I have a 2000 Blazer with some of the same symptoms. When I turn the heat control to heat, mist and a smell of what must be anti freeze comes out for a fewe minutes. The windshield gets fogged up often and I have to wipe it off, doesn't clear by itself. I looked for leaks inside and out and can't find any anti frezze leak. Before I tear the dash out and replace my heater core, what did you do to fix yours?
Thanks |

Do not try remedies... Do the job properly. Just because you have a leaking heater core, does not mean you will spot the leak from the inside. The core is in a plastic casing that needs to be removed. The fact that you smell antifreeze and get a misted windshield shows this. Replace it before it gets worse.

Re: mist ont he windshield
Would an original eq heater core be the way to go or aftermarket? Also, any helpful advive on removing the dash for the install?
Thanks |

Re: mist ont he windshield
Well it was a big job, got it replaced. The heater core looked like new, no corrosion in it. It had a broken solder joint where the end cap was connected.
Thanks |
