Thumbs down my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

I use mozilla firefox. The problem is, a while back my computer spontaneously deleted all of my bookmarks. Alright, fine, I can deal with a loss of 2 years of bookmarked sweet and useful pages...
Now, though, if I bookmark something, and then close all the firefox windows, when I re-open firefox the bookmark isn't there. WTF IS THIS CRAP???

Firefox is your problem, Avant Browser is far superior

How about we don't talk from our asses

I've been folowing mozilla and firefox from very early developement and the programing and implementation are rock solid. Not to mention that it is the best cross platform browser out there period. And lets not even mention all the legendary add on it has.

I can attest it runs as well on linux as windows too.

On the other hand Advant is not even a browser it is just an IE skin with some patches. But it still has the miriads of the potential holes that IE has.

Anyway EC437, i was reaserching it, and there is a posibility that it is a bug in version .9. So make sure to uninstall it and then get the final release 1.0.

Other posibilities include an overacting privacy program (if you have one installed) that night delete the bookmakrs along with the cookies. Or some crapy third party firefox extension.

PM me if you need more details.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

damn someone gets offended when we mention something that bothers him, Seriously I tried firefox and it was alot more complicated then Avant browser. The interface was cluttered and IMO wasn't as user-friendly as avant is.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

Yes I get offended when an excellent piece of sofware that is offered free to replace that huge security hole aka IE is being put down without offering any reason of proof whatsoever.

And i really fail to see how its interfarce its cluttered, but I guess for someone used with IE it might be unusual.

And again its basically a mistake to call Avant a browser since that would imply its a full stand alone program. When it is in reality: an upgrade to IE. So its based on the same security holes including the dreaded active x controls.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

Avant and IE are totally different. IE, yes is a POS and I would never use it again. I don't understand how it could be an add-on to IE, being that I don't have any trace of IE on this computer. But whatever.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

never saw that but I don't understand how it could work without IE, IE isn't on here. weird.

I've been with avant for a while, like I said firefox is pretty complicated. I never relised that it was a "add-on" to IE otherwise I would have never used it. I guess I'll try firefox again, and just learn my way around as I go.

Edit: Im on firefox now, I gotta say it better then I remember, However, how do I open new tabs. Is the only way ctrl+T?

Well either windows sais it removed IE and it didn't. Or Advant might come in with the IE engine built in.

It is suposed to improve quite a bit on IE but many people including me don't trust it since its still IE based.

Sorry to have came so strong but as a part time network guy on campus, safe multi platform freeware stuff like firefox is a blessing. And if you want to try firefox and have any questions fell free to pm me.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

I'm pretty sure avant has IE built in and then adds specfic functionality to it and calls itself avant.

I think Neutrino hit the nail on the head when he said it sounds like a 3rd party software deleting web content and traces after you close down your browser... if you are already running 1.0.

Re: my comp keeps deleting my bookmarks?

I had this problem; for me it was because Windows crashed while I was browsing. Here's what you do...

1. Uninstall Firefox.
2. Go to C:\Documents and Settings\Joebob\Application Data\Mozilla and delete the Firefox folder. Obviously you would want to change the drive letter and username to meet your needs, but meh...
3. Reinstall Firefox.

If I'm wrong, Neutrino is right.
