removing starter on '99 4Runner - help!

Looking for help on how to best remove the starter on my 1999 4Runner to change the contacts (assuming this is the problem). A month or so ago I was getting the "tick-tick-tick" with attempts to start it up, then it would just be dead. I'd let it sit for awhile and it would start up fine. 2 or 3 locals (including Toyota dealer) said it was my battery. Had it tested (Canadian Tire) and was told it was no good. Replaced it and everything was fine. Then 2-3 weeks later I started getting the "click" when trying to start it, and now it's much worse. May take 10 minutes before it will fire up. Scouring the forums suggest Toyotas are know for the contacts going and this is my most likely problem. Would you agree?

I'm looking to try to replace the contacts, assuming I can find them, as the first quote I've got for a starter was $340 (Canadian) plus install. I've finally found the darn starter and not sure if this is something I want to myself into!! The starter on my '89 Ford Escort had much easier access. Anyone who can suggest the best way to get it out would end up on my Christmas list.

Thanks in advance,

Ken
