Found an 87 trans am...wont run for under 1000...help me out.

Hey guys, I am new here. I ran across a not running 1987 firebird trans am on cars.com that is 9 miles away from my zip code. it is up for 1000 or best offer, but it has been up for like 2 months already. so, i was thinking about getting it and what i could do to it. it doesn't run, it has a cracked piston, and a dent in the driver side door that i can fix myself. it has the gta package (not sure what it is, an explanation would be great). I was wondering if it would be a good idea to try to get this for like 750 or something and then what i should do with it. i was thinking of getting a new motor of course, and i would probably have a few grand to spend since i am spending close to nothing on the rest of the car. it has a new starter, battery, alternator, cd stereo system, and flowmaster exhaust system. let me know what you guys think. also, maybe you could look it up on cars.com or something? thanks a lot.

Sounds like it'd be a decent car, not really a fan of the style of that year, but whatever floats your boat. Just check on the wiring, other drivetrain components. Will probably need a new radiator, brakes, etc. Just depends on whether or not you're ready for a possibly large project.

Sounds like a good car other then needing an new engine. You may want to run the Vin number to see if it is actually a GTA or not. I have an 89 that looks exactly like a GTA but it isn't. I know people that have put the GTA logo's on there to make it look like it. if you going to replace the engine I also recommend putting another GTA engine in. It'll make it worth more if you decide to sell it in the future.
