What Happens..If You Don't Have Car Insurance..?

I currently have car insurance, and my policy expires on march 05..which is on the printed policy paper in my glove box. Now, i called my insurance up, and told them that there is no way i can pay my insurance this month..then the agent told me that my insurance will expire after 20 days of non-payment.

What happens if i get in an accident..with expired insurance?? Will my DL be taken away?? Ticket?? Or if i get pulled over for a ticket (which is very slim).

The reason i ask is cause i'm in a rough time right now, and trying to get a job so badly. But it's like, either pay insurance, or eat. Money is tight and there is no one to borrow from.

BTW, my history is clean.

Don't Drive. Simple as that, you get caught here there is a $900 fine involved, and if you get in an accident you or the person you hit is not covered. Get your ass sued.

if you get in an accident, i'm pretty sure your fucked.If you get pulled over, give them your insurance card and they'll give it back with no problems. They really dont know it's not expired unless you get a ticket and they send it to the insurance.

Well how much is your insurance?
I'm pretty sure you can find a pretty cheap insurance, (just liability) you don't need full coverage. Liability is enough to get you by. The cheapest I seen liability insurance was 29 bucks a month and that just covers the car you crash into but, not yours kinda suxs but, hey at least you could still run around in your car, or just don't drive like Amish says.

PS Are you still paying for your car? If you are then theres no way you could cancel your insurance if you do the bank you owe, will find insurance for you and it will just cover their car , Life is a bitch

Damn.. didn't mean to post this topic twice. I hit submit new thread, then back cause i wanted to add something.

Anyway, no my car is used (no lease payments or anything). I think i'm gonna have to bite the bullet and take my chances. My insurance is $1200 for a 6 month plan. I'm 23 (had my license less than 3 years) thats why it's so steep. Plus a couple fender benders like 2 years ago-nothing major.

your insurance covers everything that might go wrong involving the actual use of the vehicle. if you hit someone, you're fucked. if someone hits you, you're fucked. if you ever get pulled over, you're fucked. if your car gets damaged in any way, you're fucked. if you damage anyone else's car while using it, you're doubly fucked.

if you think 2400 a year for insurance is bad, just wait untill someone in a brand new bmw hits you, sues you, and you buy them a new car and pay for their medical bills.

here in Alberta the fine is $4750, even if the fine were all i had to worry about I would never dare risk it.

Here in California most cops give you a fix it ticket and give you a certain time (you can't drive during that period) to get insurance then you go to the court house and show them proff of insurance

out here if its expired its the same as lxd's state. they give you a court date and you either need to show an updated insurance card, or you get a fine and cannot drive until you get yourself updated.

i know from experience, i have to go to court dec. 9th for expired insurance, even though it wasnt. the cop was just a dumbass and couldnt read. but hey it gets me out of school for the day and i wont have to pay a fine for it. the no turn signal thing i will pay for, having fun with friends in backroads

Here in MA car insurance is a requirement, If you don't pay your insurance or don't have any your registration gets cancelled.. My friend didn't pay his insurance bill for two months and he received a notice that his registration had been cancelled. When you go to the DMV to register a Vehicle you need to show proof of a Insurance policy. Having Car insurance is a no-brainer I know I wouldn't want to be personally responsible for all damages if I were to have an accident.
