Tires
ok its time for some new tires. What do you guys suggest for a stock 99 silverado LT Z71 5.3L
![]() I work at a place that sells tires and we sell mainly BFG, Cooper, and Michelin. I figured you guys would know best. Mostly street driving but i do take it off-road when i go up north and i we get plenty of snow in here.

Re: Tires
I recommend BFG MT's or AT's , and the size i recommend is the 255/85/16 (I have these on my truck)because they are alot narrower (33.3" tall when new) than the 285/75/16 which will help alot in snow and will be a little easier on gas too. I had 33/12.50/15 on my 88 jimmy and i may as well have had a damn plow on that thing.

Re: Tires
For your money I don't think you can beat Michelins........... great ride and great mileage. (my 2 cent).
In the summer I run the Pilot LTX 285/60/18 wrapped around Weld Evo Axis 6's (18 x 9-1/2)......... then winter driving is done on stock rims with stock sized 265/75/16 LTX A/T's. This combo works really well for me in the mud and snow or rain. I have over 41,000 miles on the LTX A/T's and still have 10/32 tread left........ unreal!! (rotate and re-balance every 5000 miles). It really comes down to personnal preference, how much you want to spend and how often you want to buy new tires. |

yip
ya i was thinking the michelins ltx m/s i've noticed on our entire fleet at work(union gas) that every truck that need's tire's is coming back with these on them, i had new one's put on last yr (thought i was special)on my work truck and they still look brand new iam really impressed with the amount or least amount of wear on them! traction is really good and we do alot of city /hwy too with no complaint's , also the load range is good. i too am in the work's of getting new tire's for my truck too and not sure what yet , i know alot of people with BFG all-terrain's that love them the only complaint was how fast they wear out? soft compound i guess? i was also looking at the dunlop tire.i was on a site that compared and rated tire's but cant find it damn it was good too. i'll keep looking for it

Re: Tires
Tall and skinny does work great for snow... If the snow is only a foot deep. If you are driving in deep snow, wide is better so you float on top of the snow pack, rather than sink in 5 feet. Skinny tires cut to the bottom of mud, snow, and sand. Wide tires float on top.
If you do mostly street driving, I would recomend the BFG All-Terrains. They last a long time and do great off road when aired down.

Re: Tires
yeah i was thinking about the BFG AT's. I put alot of them on at work and they look good too. The only bad part about putting tires on at work is sure i get to see them new but i dont really know how they are in different conditions.

Re: Tires
BFG All Terrains work good in sand and snow. They are also good in shallow mud.

Re: Tires
You will want to stay stock (265x75x16 for Z71) unless you want to tighten the torsion bars a bit and trim the fenders and bumper cowel a little too. Then you MIGHT be able to fit 285x75x16s.

I've put Michelin LTX AT's on my last two 4WD Chevies and couldn't be more pleased. Good snow traction and they wear like iron. The only disadvantage is that LT tires (of any brand) create a much rougher ride. Now I know why Chevy puts the P rated tires on at the factory - they know more people like a car-like ride.

Re: Tires
I have Cooper A/T's and I love them for the money. Haven't had one problem out of them and this is my 4th set.
