Re: Military & Skylines

Well, if you looked at the first page all your questions would have been answered.

Quote:
First of all you better own a 95 R33 or older model. Currently Motorex hasn't found a way of implementing OBDII on the 96 or above. My question is why didn't Motorex just pay someone to build a OBDII and and implement it. Now, there is recently legality problems with airbags on the R32's, they didn't come with any and Motorex forgot to mention this when they ran the petition for the R32. So expect some delays with the R32, and maybe the R33 because NHSTA may start to scrutinize the R33 because of the R32.

1. Paper work.

First off you better have a copy of your orders. Contact Motorex and get all the paper work. You will need this to present to Personel Property before your car can even be processed. They will then fill out all the paper work. Deregister your car at the LTO in Yokohama, if your in Sasebo or Okinawa I don't have a fuckn clue where to go. Make sure you are still have insurance, then go to your city hall and get temp plates (the white plates with a red stripe) and get a temp pass to drive on the base. Bring the car to Personel Property, the car cannot have anymore than 1/4 gas tank (go race like hell the night before because you aint gonna be driving it for atleast 6 months). Make sure you have a few copies of the keys cause you got to give Personel Property a copy of it. Your car will be shipped.

2. Preping your car.
Clean your freakn car make sure there are no fluids leaking.
Make sure you don't have any mods that affect emissions. e.g. better take off that straight pipe and put the cat back. If you don't have the stock ECU you better get one. Less work for Motorex=Less time you have to wait. If you changed out the internals (aftermarket cams) or overbore the engine and the compression ratio changes good fuckn luck. Because that is more fuckn shit Motorex has to do to fuckn cover up.

3. When your in the states. Insurance is a bitch i got quoted at $2000 for 6 months, I'm 22 and in the Navy. I'm not fuckn rich.

Yes, until someone comes out with a better......and LEGAL way to import them. Otherwise Motorex is your only choice, but check into that, I heard that Motorex was being investigated. I know they had problems with the R34's. I'm not sure if they are still having problems............

You know you better have like $20,000.00 cash on hand to do this right???????

Ohhh yeah, If you already own the car then 40k will be plenty. You need to pay Motorex about 16,000 for the conversion. If I remember right they offer a 1,000 discount to military members. You will also need money for tariffs and bonds. I've heard though that if you have a car back in storage in the states that the military will not pay to ship your car, I'm not sure.....you might want to look into that.

Re: Military & Skylines

I'm inquiring into this right now......called MRex and RB about the current situations......everyone is on hold as of now for the importing/ conversion so the process may take a bit longer then expected. I spoke with a gentleman from MRex named Hirosho or something like that....started with an H and he said that they would be able to do an R34 in about 3 months. I know that's a dream, but that's what the man said. He seemed very nice on the phone. I just sent them an email requesting a list of items they need to pick up at the port.

RB will have some R33's for sale shortly, also. They have them in their lot and even invited me to come and look at them.

I am new here, but post regularly at the my350z forum. I have juse been bitten by the skyline bug and have been researching over the past few months. I will keep updates posted regularly. My 350Z is pretty heavily modded, you can look up my profile under the SN scubasteve.

They said that the R34's will be legalized by the the end of 2004, I don;t believe the will do it in 3 months.

Re: Military & Skylines

He sounded pretty certain that they would be able to do the work. 3 months??? you mean 1 month. He said it would take about 3 months to do the conversion work. From what I have read, there are lots of delays regarding inspections and mandatory holds, etc. This would go back to the fact that they understand the process more than I ever will. At some point, you just have to stand back and let them do their work. As long as they put their name to it, who cares?? I also asked about selling my 350Z to them....I am assuming they import those or something??? It'll sell quick, not worried about that.
