96 monte rough idle and acceleration
I have a 96 monte carlo with about 55,000 miles. A few months ago it started to idle really rough and acceleration was rough. i took it to a shop and paid $603 dollars to put a new alternator and battery in. The shop said that might be the problem. A few days later it started again and i ignored it for a couple of months. Then it died on me in a parking lot. The lights and everything else would come on but the rpms would drop so low the car wouldnt stay started. I took it back to the shop and they said the sparkplug wires were shorting out against the block. I paid $330 dollars to fix that and the next day it started again. I have a audio system in my car i dont know if that is causing it. Any suggestions????

Re: 96 monte rough idle and acceleration
Alternator and battery? Those bastards at the shop. Is your service engine soon light on? If so go get the codes pulled and let us know what they are.

Does the rpm's drop off when you are driving and let off the accelerator? if it does look into replacing the fuel filter. they are pieces of crap i have to change mine very offten to keep them flowing good. better gas will help also. my car has the same problem. i also put a couple of cans of bg 44k in it and it made it run a lot better, took a lot of the rattling out of it! help it helps

Re: 96 monte rough idle and acceleration
Go to Autozone and get the codes pulled. That should give you a pretty good indication of the problem.
