Re: best all around under 8k

a 5.0 is a hell of alot better than an IROC because an IROC comes with a wimpy 305 that you have to swap out if you ever hope to run faster than high 13's. while there's 5.0s in their original configuration (bore and stroke) running 9's.

You could also get an LT1 F-body for under 8k. LT1s are kinda a bitch to work on though, but they are a newer feeling car than the 5.0 and do handle a bit better.

Re: best all around under 8k

drdisque has it right IMO as far as domestics. Since you said imports too consider a DSM...they have a bad reputation about reliability, although I've had absolutely no problems with mine in about 6 months which has me a little worried. Anyways they can be made very fast for not much money, they also handle pretty well, and if you get a GSX or TSi AWD you can experience some really fun launches.

300ZX TT. That's what I would suggest. Or a Trans Am. Those are my top choices for you, but thats my opinion. I'm sure someone else here knows even better than I do. Like Redneck, or Carrrnutttt. Ask a mod if that helps you. Late...

Re: best all around under 8k

What exactly do you want? A nimble agile handler? Something for wide road courses? Top end? Muscle?

If you're going import you cant go wrong with any of the japanese turbo sports cars: Supra, MR2, RX-7, 3000GT, 300ZX

An AWD DSM would be a cheap quick dragger.

And theres always our brothers w/ the V8's to put down power at the rear wheels... You need to be more specific on what you want:

What kind of performance, looks, handling, gas milage, options?

91 RX-7 TII's can be found for as low as 6k. They run a high 14, which should hold ground fairly well on the streets against most ricey imports. Not to mention, the thing handles like a beast. 50/50 distribution owns j00. They take well to mods for fairly cheap. I'd say this is the perfect car for you, provided you're willing to keep up with maintenance that's a bit on the touchy side.

Re: best all around under 8k

I paid $7900 for my last 4 MR2s

... You could get a decent Turbo MR2 for less than 8K. You could be in the 13s with very little invested, have an awesome handling car ... not to mention a true mid-engine 2-seat sports car.

Find and good turbo MR2 to take for a test drive ... your decision will be made.

2+2 means its a 4 seater, 2 seats up front, 2 in the back. Regular 300ZX only have 2 seats, no back seats.
