Question Common Transmission Issues Question?

Greetings,

I have a '99 Explorer Sport that has been a great vehicle. No problems yet. However my business partner has a '94 that the transmission just went out. The owner of the transmission shop he took it to, who is a personal friend of his told him Explorers are notorious for this after 100K miles. Mine has 104K on it now and most all my miles are highway miles as I drive 70 miles round trip to work every day. I seem to remember before I purchased my in '99 doing a search thru newsgroups and forums and do not recall reading about common transmission. Do I need to get rid of mine while it's still running good? Are there common transmission problems issues with Explorers? Thanks in advance.

one of the best preventative measures you can take is to change out the trans oil and change the filter. keep it clean and you keep the solenoids working and not sticking. have you or buddy changed the fluid in either truck??

Re: Common Transmission Issues Question?

I had to replace a vacumn modulator on my 1994, and make sure the fluid is changed and it is fine with 129,000 miles. Good Luck P

The Vacuum modulator is usually the cause of problems on the 1st generation explorers/mazda navajos, (ive had both) but the 1st generation was the ONLY one to HAVE a vacuum modulator.. after that the trannys are completely computer controlled
