Question Looking for advise ...

Hi ... I am a person who is looking at the option of buying an Explorer 1997, it has 114,000 miles, interiors look great. The concern for which I am writing this message is that in the display there are two lights that says 4WD LOW and 4WD HI (something like that ... I am not really sure now that I am writing this) but they are lit. I would imagine that either would have to be on when selected, but not the two at the same time. Also the CHECK ENGINE lit is on.

I am doing a good decision to buy it, or I am most possibly buying a money sink hole?

Please help ...

Thanks

Sounds like that thing has some issues. Find one with good miles and well maintained preferably. Explorers are known for anoyiong problem including sensors and especially transmissions.

The 4WD LOW and 4WD HI lights should normally only light up upon engine startup. Immediately after startup they should go off. Do the lights flash intermittently or just stay on? The check engine light may mean some service is due or the oxygen sensors need replacing.
That's my 2 cents worth!
