Might sell my car, any interest?

I have this unusually strong urge to pay off some bills. As much as I hate to part with the car after 5 years, it would really do some damage to the CCs I'm definitely keeping all the big dollar stuff though like FMIC, tranny, T67 etc. SO the question is what would be the best way to mod it for sale? 14b? 16g? Etc. I have a stock pile of parts, and can set it up however I want. But I dont know what people are looking for.

THe car also has high mileage, 172,000. But naturally nothing in the car is that old, except the interior, which is mint. All the bullshit work is done. Brakes all around, wheel bearings all around, I'll leave the GC/Illumina suspension on it, or stock, I have both. Wheels and tires are going with it. Could even include the stockers there too if it really matters. Tbelt and water pump will all be brand new installed on a 60-80k mile 7 bolt. Head will be freshly rebuilt by the same guy that does my race motors/heads. ARP studs. New radiator. ACT 2600. 1g BOV/UICP. AC and cruise have been removed, but I kept them in one piece for a situation like this, do poeple actually want that BS? I can also install a 97 front bumper and lights, I know people have a boner for the 97-99 look. The battery is relocated to the hatch, I could leave it that way or put it back in the stock location, etc. I have also considered putting my TMO chip in it, but I REALLY would like to keep my eprom ECU in case I pick up another 2g.

So basically its a high mileage, demodded race car that has a lot of the aggrevating bullshit work done already. A new owner could just enjoy driving and modding it with minimal maintenance required for a looong time.

What would this be worth to poeple? And how modded or how stock should it be when I sell it? I still hate the thought of parting with the car, but I have to consider it as an option. Not sure what I'll do for a "race car" but I can worry about that next year. Book value for dealer/private party is listed at 6300/4800 with that mileage and the options it has. The car is obviously in better shape than a dealer would put it in, plus it will be lightly modded, would people actually be willing to pay 6000 bucks for it? I'd like some poeple's opinions on this.

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

wow Kevin this is first time i have actually seen you make thread where you ask us a question...give me a minute to take in the moment...........................ok done...Yea if you say its in great running condition, good few mods....i would pay 6,000 for it...i mean with those mods what tme can you run? as long as the new owner doesnt drive the car and as soon as he gets home it breaks on him....but the only think that will unattract the buyers is the mileage on the car itself....but like you said a lot of people like the 97-99 look and with the better shape than the dealer deal, i dont think you can go wrong...you might even wanna sell it for a bit more...

Sorry this may not be structured well, but ive got to get to class...hope it helps and good luck! If you do sell it i hope you get another dsm next year!

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

oh yes and also you have to keep in mind who you are targeting...if its just a guy who wants a fast car and not really race it, then put the ac and cruise back in, but if youre targeting a race hard person leave it out and sell it as is

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

Seems like most people go back to stock and forget to tell people that the car was raced. I'm actually in the market for a 95 awd right now, and am looking at one tomorrow. Unfortunately I think we are quite far away, where in any other case I would consider driving Kevin Jewer's race car a blessing. If you find someone on a local board that wants the car, and if they have the money.. you can sort of customize the car for them. Otherwise you are looking to sell the car to either a performance oriented person that would appreciate a near stock, maybe a 14b car, or the second person is someone who doesn't know shit about the car and might want it stock.

Personally I would have you build me a little bit of a quick street car... 6 bolt 16g etc. I'm looking to pay 5000 for a stock 95 tsi with 85k on the motor.

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

Building it to "order" would be ideal, no guessing game for me. The problem is 99.99 percent of people are pussies and will back out half way through MAybe I should just advertise it locally and see if there is any interest from current dSMers.

I really do agree with joemathews, non-refundable deposit for sure and tuners classifieds. I would price it somewhere in the range of 8-9K so that they know they arent getting an overpriced beater of any sort. The customization thing should go very well with the potential buyers and the price, hell, if I hadnt bought my car I would buy yours. Good luck with the sale .

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

definately should be worth 8-9k with the custom made thing. the amount of work you can do in a couple hours puts most of us to shame lol. get a non refundable deposit and make them pay cash in person.

edit>>> BTW where do you live kevin?

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

I am in central mass. I would even be able to deliver the car as well as far as NY/PA perhaps. The joys of having a cummins turbo deisel for a daily driver.

Still undecided on what to do, but thanks for all the replies so far. Much appreciated, and by all means keep them coming.

Re: Might sell my car, any interest?

so, your getting out of the DSM world? as a professional car salesman i do know what people want when it comes to car. everyone wants to sell there car for more then its worth, and want to buy a car for way under what its worth. so...who are you selling the car to? a dsm'er or a normal joe who will be surfing the newbe pages on here for a couple months. when you deside, i would suggest not telling anyone what you know about the car. be as dumb as a fox. if you know the expression. dont tell them all the work that went into the car, it just illistrates all the work that needed to be done ! if you want to get the most $ i'd sell every performance part you dont want on ebay or dsmtrader!! and put the car back to stock or slighty modified. and sell it for couple hundred over KBB wholsale. people like doing their own work, thats why we own eclipse, if we wanted somone to do all our work for us, we would buy stickers and drive honda's...
