Angry 2000 engine trouble

My 2000 impala will start, but then dies immediately. The service engine soon, or check engine light doesn't even have time to come on. I have over 110,000 miles on the car, and it has ran great up to this point. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Re: 2000 engine trouble

does it only do this on the first try, or all the time, no matter what? If so, it sounds like a security system issue (the security will cut off fuel supply to engine if it thinks it's being stolen or something).

The car just started this morning. My wife got home from work, it was running fine, I went out to start it and saw some smoke under the hood, lifted the hoos and did not see the smoke. It will start, and then if I sitand rev, it is very sluggish to rev, and as soon as I let off the gas it dies.

When you are revving it, are you getting that rotten egg smell? Does it sound like the exhaust is plugged. I'm thinking it could be the catalytic converter.

Does the car sound like it's missing? Not running on all cylinders. I had a bad plug wire in mine and it ran like shit, but it didn't stall out either. But i replaced plugs and wires in it and it was fine.

What about the fuel filter whens the last time you replaced it.

Check your antifreeze. I had my intake gasket replaced because my car was running rough. I'm thinking the "Smoke" could have been steam from antifreeze. Can you smell it?

I'm just giving you some ideas to work with on what could possible be wrong with your car. If you can have the computer(s) checked out.

Let me know
mike

Re: 2000 engine trouble

Thanks for all of the input. I'm going to change the fuel filter, and check the plugs.

The smoke smelled a tad bit like oil, but it wasn't very strong and it was white smoke. I probabley tried to start it 5 times after I saw the smoke, and I didn't see it again.

Re: 2000 engine trouble

I had someone look at the car and tell me that my timing belt is messed up. Does this sound right to anyone, and if that is the problem how much would the repairs cost?

Re: 2000 engine trouble

Timing Belt??????? Did GM even put engines with timing belts in Impalas? I was under the impression that ALL of them had timing chains

white smoke is not oil.

oil is blue smoke.
